There Is No Hope, 2024 & earlier
An audio-visual installation about combatting nihilism.
We used industrial fans to inflate a bunch of plastic bags around a walkway. At the same time, we filled the room with party lighting and dance music.
At the end of the walkway was a little podium with a pen and a piece of paper asking "What is left?". Visitors were instructed to walk up to it and write something as a reaction to the piece's name, "There Is No Hope".
Behind the podium, we put up a camera connected to TouchDesigner's face tracking. When somebody walked onto the walkway, the music, lights, and fans would stop working: for a moment, everything was very quiet; very intimate.
Then, as soon as they finished writing and turned away, the party started back up.
